Course - Form and Content of a Work of Art is designed as a course in which students develop conceptual approaches to their own creative work and, through hands-on practice, become familiar with basic artistic forms such as portraiture, diptych, visual narrative, mood board, storyboard, trailer, and instructional guide. They learn to articulate their artistic intent within the framework of an assignment and deepen their understanding of how their work relates to its historical context. Instruction is based on moderated discussions and short practical exercises that help students achieve visual precision in their expression.

The first semester is devoted to fundamental topics in the areas of defining the qualities, characteristics, and demands placed on a work of art, as well as kitsch, stereotypes, and banality of expression.

  1. – 2. A playful, hands-on introduction to C. Jung’s archetypes, followed by an analysis of the students’ experiences and their artistic interpretation
  2. – 4. Requirements for a work of art—verbalization with practical examples

5–6. Searching for definitions of kitsch, presenting examples, and analyzing various strategies

7–8. Forms and manifestations of stereotypes, identifying their patterns, and practical demonstrations

9–10. Collaborative work on assigned tasks with a focus on the discussed aspects of artistic creation

11–12. Final presentation of results, discussion, and evaluation of the course

Learning outcomes

Student / The student consciously engages with the communication of artistic values, recognizes forms of kitsch and stereotypes in thinking, leads critical discussions, combines and deepens their knowledge, and is open to spontaneous inspiration and intuition, which they are able to utilize and subject to critical analysis. They are familiar with the basic characteristics of artistic forms. They are capable of producing high-quality conceptual responses to assignments.

80% attendance, timely completion of assigned tasks, and mandatory participation in the final group presentation of results

Evaluation methods and criteria

Assessment takes place during each lesson through group discussion and analysis of the limitations of the topic being covered and explored.
