The workshop introduces students to the video essay as a specific form of audiovisual thinking situated at the intersection of documentary and experimental video. The course combines theory with creative practice: students learn to work with image, sound, and text as equally important tools, to structure their own essayistic intentions, and to search for a form that corresponds to them. Emphasis is placed on experimentation, interdisciplinary approaches, and the ability to articulate ideas through audiovisual means.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to conceive, shoot, and edit their own video essay with a clearly structured intention. They will have basic skills in DaVinci Resolve, including editing, color grading, and sound post-production. They will be able to work collaboratively, formulate constructive feedback, and articulate and defend their own creative decisions.

Prerequisites and other requirements

The course does not require any prior experience with video editing or camera work.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Successful completion of the course requires active participation in class, the timely submission of partial assignments (concept, storyboard, and rough cut) according to the agreed schedule, and a presentation of the completed audiovisual project (video 3–10 minutes) at the final seminar.
