Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course Graphic Design and Photography 1 builds on the introductory graphic seminar and develops students' further skills and knowledge. For students of photography this discipline is not a central subject of their interest, but it can be a good tool for them to present or communicate some specific topics. The result of the course should be the ability to further use their own visual material for the outputs, where it is necessary to work with a certain timing, where the complete series are presented, or where the image is subsequently combined with the text and other graphic elements. In the realization of such projects, not only the knowledge of the software deepens, but also the ability to better articulate own attitudes and view own work process critically.

Mode of study

Teaching in the seminar takes the form of individual consultations, presentation of examples and explanation of work in the software.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The prerequisite is the seminar Introduction to Contemporary Graphic Design 2

Course contents

• Selection the print size

• Layout settings related to format

• Horizontal line logic

• Gradation of content

• Working with text (basics of smooth typesetting)

• Art contrast (detail / whole)

• Binding types and material selection

• Combining work with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat

Output: Product catalogue + personal business card

The subject of evaluation is submission of the final file, printed model, or photo documentation of the realized project. The creative invention is evaluated, as well as the technical processing of the document.

The prerequisite for granting credit is regular attendance at the seminar.
