Contents
The course introduces students to the basics of self-presentation in the world of art and photography. It comprises a lecture part and a consultation part. Through individual lectures by various speakers, students gain insight into institutions and opportunities available in the contemporary art world, an overview of professional opportunities at photography festivals, the basics of presenting their work through portfolio design, an introduction to management, marketing and communication in an artistic and creative context, and an introduction to the basics of copyright law with a focus on the specific needs of artists and photographers.
Lectures take place every other week, alternating with FAMU Guest Talks.
Completion of the course will be awarded for active participation in lectures and the creation and subsequent consultation of a portfolio during the consultation part of the course.

March 4 – Jakub Štěpánek (Graphic design of portfolios)

April 1 – Markéta Kinterová (Introduction to photography festivals)
April 15 – Fair Art (authors' rights for artists and photographers)
April 29 – Tereza Ježková (basics of management in an artistic and creative context)
Consultation part: Takes place separately for the Czech and English programs multiple times per semester.
Preliminary meeting schedule:
– After the first lecture, there will be an informational meeting to schedule the dates.
– A total of 3-4 meetings per language group is expected.
– The first meeting will be at the beginning of the semester in February
– One meeting in March during portfolio preparation (possibly in the form of individual consultations)
– mid-semester (by March 22) deadline for finishing the portfolio, followed by portfolio consultation with the main instructor
– consultation of the graphic design of the portfolio with Jakub Štěpánek
Learning outcomes
Students have a basic overview of institutions in the world of art and photography, know how to navigate them, and know how to present their work in various contexts. At the end of the course, students have prepared their own portfolios, the content and graphic design of which are subject to critical review
