Learning objectives:
The Composition Seminar is the main internal platform for professional communication within the department. However, it is also open to invited guests. The main focus is the presentation of the students' own work, who present their finished or in-progress compositions. The typical seminar demonstration consists of presenting one's own professionally informed commentary on the composition, listening to a recording (even simulated by computer), exceptionally in the form of a live performance, and reading the score. This is followed by a pre-prepared opinion / critique on the piece, written by another composition student, and a moderated discussion. For the needs of international students, the performance may include a summation of essential information about the presented composition in English.
Other objectives of the seminar are:
- to provide information on the latest news in the field and discussion and evaluation of events including the department's concerts
- performances and presentations of guest works
- discussion of issues of technique, aesthetics and other aspects of music making
- improving students' analytical and formulative skills,
- practical application of professional terminology and theoretical knowledge
