Information on the combined form:
The course is taught in a combined form of contact and non-contact teaching in a ratio of about 1:3, i.e. 36 hours of distance learning,
14 hours of face-to-face contact per semester.
The summer semester includes intensive concentrated block teaching of the main subjects.
The content of the course Pedagogical Seminar Modern and Contemporary Dance 2 consists mainly of independent pedagogical practice, in which the student applies and actually verifies the knowledge and skills acquired from the Didactics and Methodology MST class, with which it is closely linked. The pedagogical practice is professionally consulted with the teacher of the subject.
In the role of teacher, the student must pay attention to the principles of accurate explanation, use of professional terminology, adequate choice of methods and methods of assessment, solving specific problems for individuals, and must accept responsibility for preparation for teaching. Their written reflection teaches the student to clearly articulate the main principles, questions, as well as their opinions and attitudes.
Topics:
- Body Awareness (Feldenkreis Method, Alexander Method, etc.)
- Using the weight of the body to move (conversion of potential energy into kinetic energy)
- Lesson structure generally based on Humphrey / Limón principles (depending on the level of the students)
- Alignment, setting the body in place and in motion, eliminating bad habits, efficient and balanced posture
- Teaching of succession and opposition, examples of exercises
- Teaching isolation, concept and exercises „body as an orchestra“
- Teaching fall-rebound and suspension, examples of exercises
- Teaching fall-recovery and suspension principles
- Teaching the basic (traditional) Humphrey / Limón technique (beginners)
- Teaching the basic Humphrey / Limón lesson (intermediate)
The pedagogical seminar includes theoretical analysis and evaluation through discussion, allowing to grasp and process the topic from different perspectives and experiences.
The MST pedagogical seminar also serves to obtain basic information about the functioning, structure and problems of dance education and the contemporary Czech dance community.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Credit is awarded on the basis of a discussion of a video recording of a practical lesson taught at the selected institution and a scored analysis of the lesson, which also evaluates its effectiveness. It includes a written evaluation from active participation in a recommended festival or a field discussion of 2-3 pages, which is part of the student's portfolio, and the elaboration of the assigned tasks (continuous written reflection, presentation of the created lesson/assignment, continuous corrections, explication of the principles and meanings for the technical and artistic growth of students of a given movement and dance level.)
Other requirements: 100% attendance, activity in class.
Note
Teaching combines monological, applied, interactive teaching methods, encourages self-study in non-contact learning and student's critical thinking. The student is encouraged to create his/her own portfolio based on the acquisition of his/her own experience and skills.
Distance contact will be provided:
- by phone, email, video calls
- via a group platform for communication between students (social networks, internet, apps,
moodle, etc.)
Independent work of the student within the contactless learning consists of:
- application of specific methodological knowledge based on the topics covered in their own pedagogical practice
- training of teaching in verbal expression, musical assignment, demonstration, professional correction
- making recordings and notes of the lesson for subsequent discussion
- scoring analysis of a lesson prepared for credit and evaluation of its effectiveness
- active participation in a professional festival or a discussion within the CTP festival or the Small Inventory, a conference in the field and the preparation of a reflection in the scope of 2-3 pages, which will be reported orally during the credit hour
- searching for and collecting professional information from recommended and other literature related to the topics discussed in the third semester, sharing this knowledge and confronting it with the teacher and with other students in contact teaching
A compulsory component of the MST 2 Pedagogical Seminar is active participation in one of the recommended field festivals or a discussion of the field topics in a selected conference (CTP or Small Inventory, or others) and a brief reflection in written form of 2-3 pages.
