Periods in the development of the dance modern, characteristics of individual phases (relation to common artistic events, geographic spread, development of dance styles and forms, main representative;

The conditions ofr the rise of the dance modern: status of dance arts at the end of the 19th century, the dance modern sources of inspiration, relationto the previous development;

Dance and music in the modern (development of dance music, creations by Igor Stravinsky and other composers);

Dance and Theatre: changes in the concept of the theatre space and actors in it, impetus for the directorial concept of theatre, influence of Eastern theatre culture on the understanding of the place of dance in theatre, examples of direct interaction of modern dance and drama theatre;

Distinctive features of the dance modern: style, development of movement material, changes in the concept of dance forms, theatre as opposed to absolute dance, development of dance education, theory review of dance in the modern.

Learning outcomes

This course is a detailed introduction to the development of dance in the modern period. It focuses on the newly constituted dance style of so called Expressive dance. (Ausdruckstanz).

Prerequisites and other requirements

This course assumes the completion of an overview of history lectures in Survey of the History of Dance and Ballet and Survey of the History of Ballet in the Czech Republic.
