Course Objective:
A course in which students complete their own dissertation under the guidance of an advisor (or a specialist advisor). Systematic creative or research activity is demonstrated by the completion of the corresponding portion of the written or creative dissertation in accordance with the ISP, or by the production of other relevant forms of output (demo recordings, research, sketches, journals, datasets, notes, etc.).
Thematic Areas:
Composition, performance, production, sound design, and music direction, as well as their broad interdisciplinary overlaps in the context of contemporary artistic research.
Learning outcomes
Depending on the nature of the ISP, this primarily involves
- the creation of a work, a series of works, or interpretive performances and audio recordings that, in terms of their significance, correspond to the nature of the artistic component of the dissertation project. A clearly articulated creative vision is demonstrated, consistent with a developing creative personality. The creative output is characterized by both high technical quality and, in particular, a distinctive grounding within the relevant contemporary creative scene, both domestically and in an international context,
- the completion of the first part of the dissertation text, which may take the form of a research review, a completed chapter or multiple chapters of the future dissertation, or another structured relevant output depending on the nature of the dissertation project,
- the refinement of the ability to engage in theoretical reflection on one’s own field and the acquisition of skills leading to the integration of one’s own theoretical findings into a broad professional discourse,
- acquiring a solid understanding of research methodology, particularly in the field of artistic research within a broader academic context, and the ability to innovatively integrate this knowledge into one’s own artistic practice.
Prerequisites and other requirements

Evaluation methods and criteria
The doctoral student presents the results of their research or artistic work for the given academic year to the departmental committee, in accordance with their Individual Study Plan (ISP). If necessary, the doctoral student justifies any changes to the originally proposed plan of study. For full-time students, reviews take place on a semester basis, while part-time students are subject to a review at least once per academic year.
