The goal of this course is to provide a broader understanding of the practical, procedural, and contextual aspects of creating a theater or performance project. Earning credit requires active participation in a creative project other than one’s own, beyond the requirements of other enrolled courses.

The course aims to strengthen connections among creators and foster interdisciplinary dialogue, both within the student’s own degree program and within the department and across the entire faculty. The course systematically supports the development of specific tools, methodologies, and shared communication processes as part of the collaborative search for the final form of the work. The goal is to develop the ability to work in a team, to reflect on and articulate artistic intent, and to understand the specific needs of the individual components of a performance.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The requirement for earning credit in the elective course “Theatrical Production—Collaboration” is full participation in an artistic project under the pedagogical guidance; students receive 1 credit. The student collaborates continuously on the project and contributes to the creation of the work in an artistic role determined in consultation with the author or creative team. Credit cannot be awarded for collaboration for which other compensation (a fee, scholarship) was provided, nor for collaboration on a project without academic supervision.

The entire evaluation process consists of two consecutive phases, which the student coordinates directly with the course instructor, Petra Hauerová (petra.hauerova@damu.cz):

Initial Project Notification: At the very beginning of the artistic project, the student sends the instructor a notification that work has begun. However, this action does not officially register the student for the course—the student must complete the formal course registration themselves in the KOS information system.

Final Evaluation and Course Registration: Immediately after completing the artistic performance—which may take the form of a presentation of the work within the course, such as during “feedback week,” the Process Festival, or other forms of public presentation—which must take place no later than the end of the exam period for the given semester—the student must submit to the instructor a complete written final report on the artistic collaboration, confirmed by the supervising instructor or project consultant.

Email content: A report that must include the following required information:

Project title: [Fill in the title]

Production team: [Fill in the names of the creators]

Venue: [Theater / space / presentation occasion]

Student’s name: [Your name]

Role/position in the project: [Your role on the team]

Scope of work completed: [Number of hours] (Note: 1 ECTS credit = 30 hours of work—this includes rehearsals, performances, personal preparation, as well as analyses and feedback)
