Course contents

Course description:

The aim of the course is to prepare students for shooting a short film in Studio FAMU. To lead them on the path from theme to script and introduce them to studio shooting technology (with CINKK). To provide artistic space for collaboration with Alternative and Puppet Theatre Dept. of DAMU students. This course is executed in two all-day blocks and subsequently some script consultations (Documentary Dept.), image elements (CINKK) and working with actors (Alternative and Puppet theatre Dept.).

Students come to the first class with short themes for their films which come from one real event taking place in the media. During the semester they search for film devices to transform the event into a short film in the studio (genre, narrative approach, image concept, acting).

Technical series:

1/ Begining of October - all-day introduction to the FAMU Studio: introduction to the assignment, meeting with FAMU production (dates, budget, limits), construction in the studio, Camera Dept. instructors explain studio shooting principles (executing lighting, shot angle, available camera technology), practical potential of the studio.

2/ Middle of October - half-day introduction to the Alternative and Puppet Theatre Dept: Meeting with Alternative and Puppet Theatre Dept. students, presentation of exercises and screening potential of film styles in the studio (examples from film of previous years and also inspirational approaches of world renown filmmakers in the limits and freedom of a studio), acquainting of Documentary, and Alternative and Puppet Theatre Dept. students.

3/ November-December - regular work on the topic and script, work on set and set design, with actors and cameramen from CINKK

4/ December - execution meeting with other crew members is presented to instructors of the script and shooting plan execution workshop.
