Learning outcomes of the course unit
To acquire an awareness of the development of the role of dance culture from the Renaissance to the 19th century. To understand the development line of dance for an audience to the first efforts in ballet, as an independent theatre type. To learn the development of „artistic“ choreography tendencies and their creators in the context of European theatre. In class, to understand the manner that style characteristics of independent periods are reflected in dance.

Completion of „History of Dance and Ballet 1.“ A bearing in European history at the middle-school level.
Course contents
Changes in the court ballet of Ludwig the XIII. Dance culture in the period of Louis XIV - the height and decline of court ballet in France. Development of stage dance in professional theatre of the high Baroque: comédie-ballet, tragédie lyrique, opéra ballet, ballet pantomime, commedia dell'arte. The invention of a graphic manner for recording dance and its impact. Stage dance in the 1st half of the 18th century, the first ballet without signing and with a narrative (J. Weaver, M. Salle, etc.). Development of historical ballets in Classicism (F. Hilverding, G. Angiolini, J.G. Noverre). Celebrated dance performers (M. Camargo, M. Sallé, M. Guimard, G. and A. Vestris, etc.). The characteristics of Pre-Romance ballet, celebrated choreographers and ballet masters (S. Vigano; C.L. Didelot, C. Blasis). The development of dance technique. Romantic ballet, its characteristic features. Creators and performers in Romantic ballet (F. Taglioni, M. Taglioni, J. Perrot, C. Grisi, A. Saint-Léon, F. Cerrito, F. Elssler, A. Bournonville, L. Grahn, and others.). Ballets - féeries. Post-Romantic ballet in Russia, the creations of M. Petipa and L. Ivanov.

Assessment methods and criteria
Participation in lectures and classes. Completion of the final tests. Oral exam.
The evalulation is comprised of 25% for participation in lectures and classes and 25% test results and 50% for the oral exam.
