14:15 -17:30 masterclass by Javier de la Chica: AI in the Aesthetics of Cinema, in English

Structured talk that is mutating. It is about synthetic video production, the narrative codes of AI, told in a chronology of the last 3 years, talking about how each new tool has been opening more and more possibilities. Javier de la Chica will make a dichotomy between tools that allowes to have control and tools that bring chaos (the benefits of both).

He will approach it from an artistic and creative point of view and not so much a technical one.

Blocks:

The lecturer will start with a general preamble on generative AI, address the controversy and give a sort of best practice guide.

The lecturer defends AI as an artistic tool for artists and defends the creative role of artists in the process (I compare AI to the musical synthesizer, not to replace the orchestra but to make electronic music).

The lecturer will start a chronology through his 5 short films that serves two purposes; on the one hand to show the progress of technology in the last 2 years, on the other hand to show different working systems.

The lecturer wilI talk about what in his opinion is the great contribution of AI, the fact of having an active tool that you can control or release as you like, and he concludes that the production process with AI is a sort of audiovisual Jam Session where the script is built and transformed into the film itself.

Javier de la Chica wilI end with some reflections on the future, urging that artists be the leaders of this cultural revolution.
