Contents

Participants of the lecture series will get acquainted with the personality and work of the important world director of Czech origin, Jan Pinkava. Jan Pinkava is the author of mainly 3D animated films and has won numerous awards for his work, including an Academy Award and a number of Oscar nominations. He was part of the renowned American animation studio Pixar, where he worked for many years at the highest levels and was at the birth of many of its best films. He is also a distinguished teacher, currently leading the renowned Animationsinstitut Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

The module includes a lecture, film screening and a subsequent discussion with students.

14:00 - 17:00 Specialization lecture on Agency and Storytelling in Animation: What happens when the audience makes choices for FAMU students and faculty. Discussion after the lecture.

Moderated by Michaela Pavlátová.

The programme is in English without interpretation.

Learning outcomes

The students will get acquainted with Jan Pinkava, an important world director and teacher of Czech origin, his work, research, background and methods. The work of this Oscar-winning filmmaker includes animated and short films, and more recently he has also been involved in storytelling with audience participation.

Prerequisites and other requirements

Interest in film, especially animation, 3D animation and Pixar, interest in new ways of conveying the story.

Evaluation methods and criteria

100 % participation in the film screening and lecture, activity during the discussion, proof of participation by signing the attendance list at the FAMU Studio Referee screening on 11.12.2024
