Every year, One World highlights important issues that move society. In addition to the traditional competition sections, the programme of the twenty-eighth edition of the festival will offer nine non-competitive categories, grouping films by theme into the sections One World for All, Climate in Need, Vision of Today, Against the Tide, Fault Lines, Community Vortex, Everyday Courage, Among Generations and The Gunnar Myth.

Thanks to the film school's cooperation with the One World festival, FAMU students will be introduced to Gunnar Hall Jensen (*1963) as part of the masterclass - a remarkable Norwegian filmmaker who, in his free film series, embarks on an uncompromising exploration of complex life questions and his own dark sides. Through brutally honest and self-revealing documentaries, he builds his constantly evolving self-portrait. It provides raw insight into current topics that the author and society are dealing with, whether it be sexuality, relationships, personal crises, escape from Western society, the pitfalls of parenthood, or contemporary and often toxic masculinity.

Gunnar Hall Jensen's masterclass will take place in English on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ponrepo cinema, where his film Portrait of a Confused Father (2025, 79') will also be screened:

Is it even possible to be a good parent in a time of illusory needs and false models? Gunnar tries to do just that. He is attentive, funny and understanding. Nevertheless, a dramatic gulf gradually forms between him and his son.

For twenty years, director Gunnar Jensen filmed his son's life. From his first steps to a joint expedition into the wilderness to early adulthood, which developed in a completely different direction than anyone would have suspected. In a playfully associative and ironically self-reflexive portrait of parental groping, Gunnar asks himself the fundamental question of where the mistake went. How is it possible that the people who are infinitely close to us can also be the most distant? A moving and a playful journey into the hearts of two men, several eras, and shaky moral values.

During the festival you can also watch older films by the Norwegian documentary filmmaker:

Thursday 12. 3. Screening FAMU Lažan (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, P1, 1st floor)

10:00-11:30

Better Go Mad in the Wild / Raději zešílet v divočině (2025, 84´, dir. Miro Remo) - https://www.oneworld.cz/films/58487-better-go-mad-in-the-wild

Is it possible to escape the modern world and survive solely in the company of one’s brother, a few pets, and one’s own imagination? An intimate look at the magical coexistence of modern-day hermits in the Šumava mountains, where isolation is anything but silent and reality can sometimes slip away.

Twin brothers František and Ondřej Klišík live off the grid in Šumava. Their only companions are each other and their pets. Each has developed their own coping mechanisms for the constraints of constantly being together: František increasingly retreats into fantasy worlds and dreams of learning to fly, while Ondřej observes his brother’s attempts with a more critical, rational eye. Inspired by the book of the same name by Aleš Palán and Jan Šibík, the film questions the rules of the world around us through an escape from everyday reality. This documentary about two brothers is a visually playful portrait of long-term isolation and the evolving dynamics of a sibling relationship, set against the backdrop of natural cycles.

Thursday 12. 3. Screening FAMU Lažan (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, P1, 1st floor)

13:15-15:00

What About Petey? / Co s Péťou? (2025, 85´, dir. Martin Trabalík) - https://www.oneworld.cz/films/59657-what-about-petey

This intimate portrait of the relationship between a father and his son on the autism spectrum captures both the difficulty and the strength inherent in everyday caregiving. At the same time, it exposes the limits of a system that too often relies on the sacrifices of others.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Jochec takes on the care of his two teenage children: his daughter Vanessa and his son Petr, who is on the autism spectrum. Petr will soon turn eighteen and is already physically an adult man. During occasional outbursts of anger, he harms himself and those around him. Despite the growing demands, the father devotes a significant portion of his physical and emotional strength to caring for his son. This formally refined observational documentary is primarily a tribute to people in caregiving roles. Through a single human story, it also draws attention to the shortcomings of the current social system, which fails to provide sufficient support to people with disabilities and their families.

Thursday 12. 3. Screening FAMU Lažan (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, P1, 1st floor)

15:15-17:00

80 Angry Journalists / 80 rozlícených novinářů (2026, 94´, dir. Anna Kis, András Földes) - https://www.oneworld.cz/films/59666-80-angry-journalists

The Hungarian government succeeded in taking control of one of the country’s most prominent independent media outlets, Index.hu. The journalists fight back with every tool at their disposal, but the system is rigged against them.

In 2020, ownership of Index.hu shifted to figures loyal to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Journalists protested, resigned, and attempted to launch a new media platform. Their struggle to defend independent journalism, however, ran up against a complex web of authoritarian control. This investigative documentary uses firsthand accounts from former employees to highlight the importance of media in an age when the value of truth is increasingly questioned. Through its urgency and methodical mapping of the dismantling of independent media, the film demonstrates that this is far from a local issue, it’s a pressing global concern.

Friday 13. 3. Screening FAMU Lažan (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, P1, 1st floor)

15:00-16:30

AMOOSED: a moose odyssey / AMOOSED: losí odysea (2025, 76´, dir. Hana Nováková) - https://www.oneworld.cz/films/59383-amoosed-a-moose-odyssey

Moose have played a vital and, to this day, somewhat mysterious role in our world since time immemorial. Their massive figures reflect considerable strength, a calm beauty, and the forgotten bond between humanity and the wild.

A totem animal. A guide between worlds. A being that appears only to those who need it most at that moment. This is how the documentary’s director and ethnologist describes the moose, an encounter with which becomes a key moment in her life. The search for the secrets that have long surrounded moose leads her into Czech forests and remote corners of Russia and Canada. The stories she gathers during her odyssey gradually assemble an image of a being that has not yet revealed to humans all that it hides. A film about the encounter between man and moose subtly transforms into a universal reflection on how people are gradually losing their connection to nature.

Saturday 14. 3. Screening FAMU Lažan (Smetanovo nábřeží 2, P1, 1st floor)

15:00-16:30

Vojta’s Life: A New Episode / Vojtův život: Nová epizoda (2026, 65´, dir. Vojtěch Petřina) - https://www.oneworld.cz/films/59650-vojta-s-life-a-new-episode

Approaching forty, Vojta lives alone in a small Prague studio apartment, navigates the city’s cultural and academic circles on a modest income, and searches for a close romantic connection. Can he find love?

In the era of dating apps and carefully curated profiles, finding a partner often seems more about marketing skills than human qualities. Vojta returns to the basics: pure physical closeness, guided by instinct and primal attraction. In his experiment, he meets different women based on the scent of their T-shirts. The project is staged like an intimate reality show about dating, set within the tightly knit community of filmmakers around FAMU. Will Vojta’s nose lead him to his life partner? And does scent really determine who we choose, or does attraction have its roots somewhere else entirely? This documentary investigation offers a fascinating look at contemporary relationships, loneliness, and the search for authentic connection.
