• Professional film set is a unique environment, which can seem complicated at first

glance and for someone be even stressful. The truth is that a professional film set

is, in most cases, an organism with set of exact rules and clearly defined

relationships between individual departments. But there are only limited resources

on how to learn these rules. What is the mission of Production Sound team on set

and how to navigate in a film set from a Production Sound perspective?

• We will discuss general workflow of shooting fiction narrative films, pre-production,

location scouting, show preparation, we will deep dive into sound team as swell as

other departments responsibilities, we will go through typical shooting day, describe

call sheets and other important documents connected to our work, we will talk about

professional equipment, technical workflow, interconnectivity, advanced RF systems

and professional terminology.

• Since our position on set is 50% sound skills and 50% diplomacy, we will talk not

only about technical aspects, but also about communication, physical and mental

health, emotional communication, interning, mentoring and how to build a career as

a member of production sound team.

Learning outcomes

• Students will get practical guide on how to operate on modern sets as well as get

broader understanding of professional shooting principles, which are universal to

any budget shooting. Also, hopefully, this module should help to soften the students

first experience with professional sets, which in some cases, without enough

knowledge, can be harsh.
