Sonic Wayfaring brings together composers and sound artists John Richards (Dirty Electronics), Ladislav Železný (|_|)||) and Martin Ožvold (FSME 840, FAMU) in an afternoon that blurs the boundaries between workshop, performance and installation.

„Wayfaring,“ as Tim Ingold writes, is not moving from point A to point B, but being in motion - weaving paths instead of jumping between fixed places. Each step, stop, or sound becomes part of an unbroken stream of weaving. In sonic wayfaring, listening and sound-making are not the goal, but the journey itself - a way of inhabiting space through resonance, connection and proximity.

The programme for the afternoon will unfold from a critical sound design workshop, discussion and listening sessions to a ritual of 'cleansing' and the creation of a fluid performative environment. You can expect an abundance of prepared turntables, electronic sources scattered in the space, moments of silence, tea and biscuits.

This workshop is suitable for students of all disciplines.

Programme

14:00 Rituel de purification - workshop and performance by Sonic Wayfaring

15:45 Tea and biscuits

16:00 Discussion table: Towards a politics of diffusion (Dream Houses - from Acousmonia to Rainforest)

18:00 Performance and installation - John Richards, Martin Ožvold, Ladislav Železný

Learning outcomes

Students become part of the process: participating in discussion tables, experiencing sound in unusual situations and watching the blending of workshop into performance. The module develops aural sensibility and spatiality, developing and critically approaching methods of sound production and the amplification and dispersion of sound signal in the context of scenography and performance using electronic sound and loudspeakers.

John Richards is best known for his work as Dirty Electronics that is concerned with the performance of large-group electronic music, DIY electronics and critical making. It is mainly a fluid, live practice associated with the ideas of workshop-installation and performance-installation. As Dirty Electronics, he has created sound devices for various arts organisations and festivals, most notably Mute Records. He has also written numerous texts on DIY practices, performance of electronic music, and material approaches in relation to sound art.
