Learning objectives:

The Composition Seminar is the main internal platform for professional communication within the department. However, it is also open to invited guests. The main focus is the presentation of the students' own work, who present their finished or in-progress compositions. The typical seminar demonstration consists of presenting one's own professionally informed commentary on the composition, listening to a recording (even simulated by computer), exceptionally in the form of a live performance, and reading the score. This is followed by a pre-prepared opinion / critique on the piece, written by another composition student, and a moderated discussion. For the needs of international students, the performance may include a summation of essential information about the presented composition in English.

Other objectives of the seminar are:

The student can describe their creative intentions, present their work, apply professional terminology according to their knowledge, discuss and argue knowledgeably.

Prerequisites and other requirements

a) knowledge of composition issues at the necessary level

b) sufficient knowledge of music theory

c) corresponding forulating skills

d) active overview of contemporary music events

Evaluation methods and criteria

Participation in the seminar, quality of outputs, activity and contribution to the discussion are evaluated.

At least 1 individual presentation during the semester is mandatory - usually a presentation of one’s own work. Presentation of another relevant topic (e.g. an interest in somebody else's composition) is also considered to have fulfilled the obligation.
